The backstory.

For years, brussels sprouts were one of those vegetables I thought I should like more than I actually did. Then I started making them in the air fryer. That crispy, roasted exterior and tender center completely changed my mind. Now they're one of my favorite easy side dishes because they take almost no effort and pair with just about everything.

It's a must-make.

If you're looking for a simple way to make brussel sprouts in air fryer, this recipe checks all the boxes - quick, flavorful, and easy enough for any night of the week.

  • It gets perfectly crispy. The air fryer creates those delicious golden edges without needing a lot of oil.
  • It's ready fast. This 20 minute recipe is ideal when you need a vegetable side dish in a hurry.
  • It's a healthy choice. Fresh Brussels sprouts are packed with fiber and nutrients while staying naturally low carb and vegetarian.
  • It's incredibly versatile. Change up the seasonings and serve it with almost any meal.

I have always loved roasted brussels sprouts, but because they take so long in the oven, I would only make them on weekends. Roasting them in the air fryer is FAST - now you can have them any day of the week!

Let's talk texture and flavor.

These crispy air fryer brussel sprouts have everything you want in a great vegetable side. The outer leaves become lightly crisp and roasted while the centers stay tender and slightly nutty. Garlic powder adds savory flavor, and a simple seasoning blend lets the natural sweetness of the Brussels sprouts shine through. Every bite has that perfect balance of crispy, caramelized edges and soft, tender centers.

What you'll need.

Here's what your going to need to make crispy air fryer brussel sprouts.

  • Brussel Sprouts: Fresh Brussels sprouts are the star of the recipe. Look for firm, bright green sprouts for the best texture and flavor.
  • Olive Oil: Helps the sprouts crisp up beautifully while adding richness.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds savory flavor without overpowering the vegetables.
  • Kosher Salt: Enhances the natural flavor of the sprouts.
  • Ground Black Pepper: Adds a little warmth and balances the seasoning.

If Brussels sprouts are already a regular part of your dinner rotation, there are plenty of delicious ways to mix things up. For a sweet and tangy side dish, try Maple Balsamic Brussel Sprouts. Need a quick shortcut? Frozen Brussel Sprouts (Air Fryer) are perfect when fresh sprouts aren't in the fridge.. And when you're looking for something a little fresher, Kale and Brussel Sprout Salad with Pomegranate and Pecans combines crunchy sprouts, sweet pomegranate, and pecans for a colorful salad that's perfect for holidays, lunches, or everyday meals.

Customize it your way.

This brussels sprouts air fryer recipe is easy to make your own with a few simple additions and flavor twists.

  • Toss with grated parmesan cheese after cooking.
  • Drizzle with balsamic glaze for a sweet-tangy finish.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika for a deeper roasted flavor.
  • Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if you like a little heat.
  • Use a salted lemon pepper seasoning instead of the salt and pepper.
  • Finish with fresh herbs like parsley or thyme before serving.
  • Use avocado oil or coconut oil instead of olive oil.

Flexible dietary swaps.

One of my favorite things about brussel sprouts in air fryer is how naturally adaptable they are for different eating styles.

  • Vegan: Skip any optional parmesan cheese garnish and enjoy as written.
  • Dairy-Free: Leave off cheese toppings and use fresh herbs instead.
  • Whole30: Use compliant seasonings and enjoy as a simple vegetable side.
  • Low-Sodium: Reduce the kosher salt and let the roasted flavor of the sprouts shine.
  • Oil-Light: Use a light coating of oil spray instead of the full amount of olive oil.

How to make this brussel sprouts air fryer recipe.

Making brussel sprouts in air fryer is super easy and quick.

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
  2. Toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Arrange them in the air fryer basket in an even layer and cook for 12 to 15 minutes.
  4. Shake the basket halfway through cooking and continue until the sprouts are crispy outside and tender inside.

How to serve them.

Brussel sprouts in air fryer work with everything from casual weeknight dinners to holiday meals.

  • Garnish with fresh herbs, parmesan cheese, or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.
  • Serve alongside grilled chicken, steak, pork tenderloin, or salmon.
  • Add them to grain bowls for extra texture and flavor.
  • Enjoy them as a healthy snack straight from the air fryer.
  • Pair them with other roasted vegetables for a simple vegetarian meal.

Kori's tips.

  • Give them space. Crowding the basket prevents the sprouts from getting crispy.
  • Shake halfway through. This helps everything cook evenly and develop those golden edges.
  • Cut them in half for faster cooking. Smaller sprouts cook more quickly and get even crispier.
  • Adjust the timing as needed. Every air fryer cooks a little differently, so check for doneness near the end.
  • Season after cooking if needed. A final sprinkle of salt or fresh herbs can really brighten the flavor.

FAQs

What's the best way to store it?

Store leftover Brussels sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Can I freeze them?

Yes, although they won't stay as crispy after thawing. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months and reheat in the air fryer.

Are brussels sprouts keto?

Yes, brussels sprouts are keto-friendly and low carb. This recipe is made with olive oil so you'll have the additional healthy fat included as well.

For more information on what foods are acceptable on a keto diet please check out this Printable Keto Food List PDF.

Why aren't my brussels sprouts crispy?

The basket may be overcrowded, or the sprouts may have too much moisture. Pat them dry before cooking and leave space around them in the basket.
