The Backstory

In our household, there's one flavor that reigns supreme—buffalo. My youngest was always so enamored with anything buffalo-flavored that we've joked about needing to buy hot sauce by the gallon. So, when it came time to create the ultimate party appetizer, this easy buffalo chicken wing dip became an instant hit.

A Must-Make Easy Chicken Wing Dip!

Packed with Flavor

This easy buffalo chicken wing dip is the ultimate flavor bomb! It’s rich, creamy, and loaded with bold ingredients like buffalo sauce, tangy blue cheese dressing, smooth cream cheese, and crunchy celery. Every bite is a perfect balance of heat, creaminess, and a little zing!

Cook it Any Way You Want

No oven? No problem! This dip is so flexible, you can make it anywhere there’s heat. Pop it in the microwave for a quick fix, let it simmer in the crockpot for a party, bake it in the oven for that golden, bubbly finish, or even throw it on the grill in a metal pan while tailgating. Seriously—there’s no wrong way to make it!

Easily Made Healthier

Want to keep things a little lighter? You’ve got options!

  • Low-carb, gluten-free, and keto-friendly? Swap in sugar-free buffalo sauce and low-carb blue cheese dressing.
  • Watching fat intake? Use reduced-fat cream cheese and low-fat dressing for a lighter (but still delicious) twist.

However you make it, this dip is guaranteed to be the star of the snack table!

What You'll Need

Here are the ingredients you will need to make buffalo chicken wings dip:

  • Cream Cheese - softened is best in this recipe. You mix all ingredients together before baking, and it is easiest when it is very soft.
  • Buffalo Sauce - make our homemade recipe or choose any brand or spice level that you like. When cooking for a crowd, it is safest to do mild.
  • Blue Cheese Dressing - use our recipe or a favorite store-bought brand!
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles - use as much or as little as you like. Use extra to garnish the top of the dip if preferred.
  • Celery Salt
  • Frozen Grilled Chicken Breast Strips - any brand you prefer. Substitute with canned chunk chicken, rotisserie chicken, or bake boneless skinless chicken breasts, then shred.
  • Celery - chop your celery finely, so there aren't any large chunks, and each bite is proportionate.

For exact ingredient quantities, please see the recipe card below!

Make it Yours

  • Substitute ranch dressing instead of blue cheese dressing if you don't like blue cheese. Omit the blue cheese crumbles and add feta crumbles or goat cheese crumbles!
  • Want to add more spice? Finely chop a fresh jalapeno pepper and add to your buffalo chicken dip mixture before baking!
  • Substitute the dressing with a buffalo or ranch seasoning packet to cut calories.
  • Use any chicken you prefer in this recipe! I have used canned chicken, rotisserie chicken, or leftover grilled chicken. Feel free to omit the chicken if serving any vegetarian friends or family.

Kori's Tips

  • Remember to soften your cream cheese ahead of time to make mixing all your ingredients together before baking. You can microwave your cream cheese on high for 30 seconds to soften it if in a pinch.
  • Keep your dip warm by using a crockpot! So convenient when taking a hot dip to a party.
  • You can also warm it in the oven, microwave it, or cook it in a crockpot on low.

FAQs

What is buffalo chicken dip made of?

Follow our recipe below for a tasty option!  Most buffalo chicken dips include shredded chicken, cream cheese, buffalo sauce, and ranch dressing as their key ingredients.  Some may add extra shredded cheese, crumbled blue cheese, and or chopped green onions to their recipes!

What makes buffalo chicken dip thicker?

Adding extra cheese, whether it's more cream cheese, extra crumbled or shredded, any of these options will help thicken your dip. Another simple way is to add cornstarch slurry or roux to the hot dip to help thicken it as well.

How do I store it?

Allow your dip to cool uncovered and store in an air-tight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.

How do I reheat my buffalo chicken dip?

In a crockpot or in the microwave, reheat the dip stirring multiple times to make sure it doesn’t break! If this occurs, add a little cream or milk to help your dip return to life. Reheat to the preferred temperature.
