Why You'll ❤️ Chicken Wing Dip

"I can't tell you how often I am asked to bring this buffalo chicken wing dip to parties! You'll love this recipe because it's so easy to make - I use thawed frozen grilled chicken for more flavor than canned chicken!"

    So Flavorful

This dip is super flavorful, creamy, and cheesy! Buffalo sauce, blue cheese dressing, cream cheese, and celery make the majority of this dip. Lots of strong flavors that pair so perfectly together!

    Multiple Ways To Cook It

This recipe is so convenient and easy to make you make it anywhere you have heat! I have made it in the microwave, crockpot, oven, and even on the grill in a metal pan while tailgating with family and friends!

    Healthy

There are several ways you can make this dip fit your dietary needs!

Make it low carb, gluten free, and keto by using sugar-free buffalo sauce and low carb blue cheese dressing.

To lower the fat, use reduced-fat cream cheese and low-fat blue cheese dressing!

    🥘 What You'll Need

Here are the ingredients you will need to make buffalo chicken wings dip:

Cream Cheese - softened is best in this recipe. You mix all ingredients together before baking, and it is easiest when it is very soft.

Buffalo Sauce - make our homemade recipe or choose any brand or spice level that you like. When cooking for a crowd, it is safest to do mild.

Blue Cheese Dressing - use our recipe or a favorite store-bought brand!

Blue Cheese Crumbles - use as much or as little as you like. Use extra to garnish the top of the dip if preferred.

    Celery Salt

Frozen Grilled Chicken Breast Strips - any brand you prefer. Substitute with canned chunk chicken, rotisserie chicken, or bake boneless skinless chicken breasts, then shred.

Celery - chop your celery finely, so there aren't any large chunks, and each bite is proportionate.

For exact ingredient quantities, please see the recipe card below!

    🔪 How To Make It

Here are the step-by-step instructions for making this dip:

    Prep

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Chop the chicken strips into ¼ to ½" pieces.

    Mix

In a medium-sized bowl, mix together cream cheese, salad dressing, celery salt, ½ the buffalo sauce, ½ the blue cheese, and ½ the chicken.

mixing the chicken wing dip ingredients in a clear glass mixing bowl.

    Layer

Transfer the mixture to a greased, shallow baking dish (approx. 1 to 1.5-quarts)

Top with remaining buffalo sauce, blue cheese crumbles, and chicken.

Spreading the dip into a baking dish then topping with the rest of the chicken, sauce, and cheese.

    Bake

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the dip is heated through.

Once warm, remove from the oven and top with the fresh chopped celery and serve!

Note: you can also warm it in a microwave, cook it in a crockpot on low, place it in a metal pan, and heat it on a grill.

Topping with celery then dipping a cracker into the dip.

    🥗 How To Serve It

Here are a few ways to serve this buffalo chicken wing dip:

Serve with some classic carrots and celery sticks to keep it low-carb!

Serve with a fresh, thinly sliced baguette. You can also use your favorite tortilla chips or crackers.

Melt shredded cheddar cheese on top of your dip to make it extra cheesy!

Garnish the top with sliced green onion or chives. Use additional blue cheese crumbles if you like!

Drizzle with extra blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing.

    📖 Variations

Here are a few ways you can vary or make substitutions to this recipe:

    • Substitute ranch dressing instead of blue cheese dressing if you don't like blue cheese. Omit the blue cheese crumbles and add feta crumbles or goat cheese crumbles!
    • Want to add more spice? Finely chop a fresh jalapeno pepper and add to your buffalo chicken dip mixture before baking!
    • Substitute the dressing with a buffalo or ranch seasoning packet to cut calories.
    • Use any chicken you prefer in this recipe! I have used canned chicken, rotisserie chicken, or leftover grilled chicken. Feel free to omit the chicken if serving any vegetarian friends or family.

    💭 Top Tips

    • Remember to soften your cream cheese ahead of time to make mixing all your ingredients together before baking. You can microwave your cream cheese on high for 30 seconds to soften it if in a pinch.
    • Keep your dip warm by using a crockpot! So convenient when taking a hot dip to a party.

    ❓FAQs

    How To Store

Allow your dip to cool uncovered and store in an air-tight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.

    How To Reheat

In a crockpot or in the microwave, reheat the dip stirring multiple times to make sure it doesn’t break!  If this occurs, add a little cream or milk to help your dip return to life.  Reheat to the preferred temperature.

What is buffalo chicken dip made of?

Follow our recipe below for a tasty option!  Most buffalo chicken dips include shredded chicken, cream cheese, buffalo sauce, and ranch dressing as their key ingredients.  Some may add extra shredded cheese, crumbled blue cheese, and or chopped green onions to their recipes!

What makes buffalo chicken dip thicker?

Adding extra cheese, whether it's more cream cheese, extra crumbled or shredded, any of these options will help thicken your dip. Another simple way is to add cornstarch slurry or roux to the hot dip to help thicken it as well.

Is buffalo chicken dip supposed to be runny?

Not particularly, but certain ingredients, if used in abundance, can add to the looseness of a dip.  Too much buffalo sauce or ranch can lead to a looser dip or low-fat cream cheese as well.  I would suggest adding the ranch and buffalo sauce as you go to help create your preferred thickness!
