A compilation of four chaffle recipes being served.Pin

Why You'll Love This Basic Keto Chaffle Recipe

Super Easy

If you've got 2 ingredients - eggs and cheese, a waffle maker, and 5 minutes - you can make these!

So Many Uses

Use these as a bread or bun replacement for sandwiches, burgers, bratwurst, and hot dogs. Makes a great taco shell and a perfect pizza crust. Keep it basic or customize each with a few tweaks. Enjoy!

Healthy

Chaffles have 302 calories, 2 carbs, and 24 grams of fat. No sugar is added, these are gluten-free, low carbohydrate, and keto.

What You'll Need

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this basic chaffle recipe:

  • Shredded Cheese - start with cheddar cheese and substitute other cheese according to the type of recipe you are using. Maybe you want a mild cheese for sandwich bread like jack or mozzarella cheese. Pepper jack is amazing when using as a taco shell.
  • Egg

For exact ingredient quantities, please see the recipe card below!

Substitutions and Variations

  • Make them spicy by adding red pepper flakes or cayenne to you mix.
  • Use any favorite shredded cheese, or even a combination of cheeses. Jack cheese, pepper jack, mozzarella, colby jack, are all great options.
  • Add Italian herbs if making a pizza. Add cumin and chili powder if making a taco - get creative!
  • Finely chopped fresh herbs can be added to the batter as well.

How To Serve It

  • Use 2 smaller chaffles for a delicious sandwich or as a bun for a burgers, hot dogs, brats, sloppy joes, and pulled pork.
  • Chaffles make a perfect (and very tasty) shell for tacos. They also make a great base for Chicken Tinga Tostadas.
  • Turn them into a seriously good pizza chaffle with only a few ingredients.
  • Make keto fried chicken and waffles with gravy - using Keto Chicken Tenders and this Make Ahead Keto Gravy Recipe.
  • Make a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and ham or sausage.

Kori's Tips

  • The chaffles can be made ahead of time and kept in an air-tight bag in the refrigerator or even frozen up to 3 months. Reheat and crisp up in a toaster or an air fryer.
  •  If using a mini waffle iron this recipe will make 2 chaffles. If using a standard waffle iron, it will make one.
  • If you tried this basic chaffle recipe and loved it I recommend that you buy a regular 6 to 8" waffle maker and a mini size - they are inexpensive. I used the larger waffle maker for waffle I want to bend (like a taco shells and hot dogs), or put ingredients on top of, and the mini size for bread and bun replacements.

Hey there, I'm Kori.

I’m a culinary school trained chef specializing in holistic nutrition and wellness. I’ve always been a major foodie, and as I’ve aged, the full impact of my love of food—and not-necessarily-healthy eating habits—caught up to me. In an effort to make positive changes in my life (and hopefully yours, too), I created this website where I could share great-tasting, craveable, healthy recipes.
