The backstory.

I started experimenting with a healthier bang bang sauce because I wanted something lighter to drizzle over my crispy roasted cauliflower. After nailing the perfect balance of creamy, sweet, and spicy, I realized this sauce was way too good not to use on everything-especially classic bang bang shrimp. Now it's my go-to for veggies, shrimp, and so much more!

xoxo Kori

It's a must-make.

This copycat Bang Bang sauce recipe is quick, versatile, and easy to make healthier:

  • Quick and easy - it comes together in minutes with just a handful of ingredients.
  • So versatile - perfect for dipping, drizzling, or spreading on all your favorite dishes.
  • Healthier homemade twist - you can lighten it up with Greek yogurt or make it sugar-free using my sugar free Thai-style sweet chili sauce.
  • Bold, addictive flavor - the sweet, spicy, and creamy combo keeps everyone coming back for more.

Simple, delicious, and totally crave-worthy. I love recipes that bring the wow factor without the fuss.

Let's talk texture and flavor.

This Bang Bang sauce recipe is a dreamy blend of creamy, sweet, and spicy flavors. The smooth mayo base makes it rich and velvety, while Thai sweet chili and sriracha sauce give it that perfect sweet heat. Fresh lemon juice adds brightness, and honey or maple syrup can bring a gentle touch of extra sweetness. Every drizzle and dip is full of bold flavor and addictive creaminess that clings to chicken, shrimp, and veggies like a dream.

What you'll need.

Here are the base ingredients you need to make your own bang bang sauce:

  • Mayonnaise - Classic base for that creamy texture. Use nonfat, light, vegan, or regular mayo.
  • Sugar Free Thai Sweet Chili Sauce - Adds sweet and tangy flavor; use my sugar-free version for fewer carbs.
  • Sriracha Sauce - For that signature spicy kick. Adjust the amount to your heat preference.

Customize it your way.

I gave you the basics, but now you can run with it and easily customize your bang bang sauce to fit your taste or dietary needs!
Try these tasty additions and healthy swaps:

  • Plain Greek Yogurt: Swap half the mayonnaise for plain Greek yogurt to lighten things up and add a tangy flavor.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup: Add a teaspoon for extra sweetness, or leave it out to keep your bang bang sauce sugar free.
  • Lemon Zest & Juice: For a fresh, citrusy note, mix in a little lemon zest or juice.
  • Chopped Green Onions: Stir in sliced green onions for extra flavor and color.
  • Fresh Herbs: Cilantro or chives make a great fresh addition.
  • Spice It Up: Add extra sriracha for more heat, or a pinch of chili flakes.
  • Crunch Factor: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top for a fun texture.

Flexible dietary swaps.

Here are some easy dietary swaps to make bang bang sauce fit your lifestyle:

  • Low Carb & Sugar Free: Use a sugar free Thai sweet chili sauce and skip the honey or maple syrup.
  • Gluten Free: Double-check your chili sauce and sriracha labels to make sure they're gluten free.
  • Dairy Free: Use a vegan mayonnaise and skip the Greek yogurt.
  • Egg Free: Choose an egg-free or vegan mayonnaise alternative.
  • Vegan: Use vegan mayo, sugar free vegan sweet chili sauce, and skip honey (opt for maple syrup or agave).

Hey there, I'm Kori.

I’m a culinary school trained chef specializing in holistic nutrition and wellness. I’ve always been a major foodie, and as I’ve aged, the full impact of my love of food—and not-necessarily-healthy eating habits—caught up to me. In an effort to make positive changes in my life (and hopefully yours, too), I created this website where I could share great-tasting, craveable, healthy recipes.
