You'll ❤️ This Cold Foam Recipe

"One of my favorite things about cold brew is the foam. This is my take on Starbuck's sweet cream foam. It's tastes amazing + it's quick and easy!" 🙂 -Kori

It's Easy. Only three ingredients and a couple of minutes are all you need to make this vanilla sweet cream cold foam recipe!

Versatile. The beautiful thing - you can easily adapt this to your tastes. See my notes under the Variation section.

It's cheap to make. This is considerably cheaper than store-bought cold foam - even if you invest in an electric frother. Over time it will pay for itself.

Make it Healthy! This recipe is gluten free, low carb, and keto. If you use a sugar substitute, it will also be sugar-free. Hooray for that!

    🥛 How To Serve It

Here are a few ways to serve cold foam:

    • Pour it over just about any iced drinks.
    • Fruit - sweetened cold foam makes an amazing topping for berries or other fruit.
    • Add it to smoothies.
    • Top off with chocolate milk or strawberry milk.
    • Top off a cocktail with it. Pour it over your favorite iced liqueur over ice such as irish cream, Rumchata, Bailey's, Chocolate Liqueur, etc. FYI that this vanilla cold foam over iced lemon Rumchata is amazing!!

Make honey almond milk cold brew or salted caramel cream cold brew then top them off with this delicious foam recipe. 🙂

    🥘 What You'll Need

    Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this sweet cream recipe:

    • Heavy Whipping Cream - bold dash with a space in between. start instruction in lowercase not bolded like this example. If using an electric milk frother it is very easy to whip up whole milk, or even oat milk.
    • Sweetener - to sweeten use powdered sugar or a sugar substitute with a sugar ratio of 1:1. I also use a sugar substitute usually Swerve, monk fruit, erythritol, or allulose. Cold foam does not need to be sweetened if you prefer it better that way.
    • Optional Vanilla Extract - you do not have to flavor your cold foam with any extract if you don't want to. If you do use vanilla make sure you use pure vanilla extract.

Be sure to see the recipe card below for ingredient quantities and full instructions!

    Equipment

Equipment and tools needed to make this cold foam recipe:

    • Electric milk frother - for busy people this is absolutely the way to go especially when it's a hectic morning!
    • or, use a handheld milk frother, a whisk or an electric mixer - the hand mix method works like a charm only it takes a little longer.
    • Bowl - you'll need a bowl if you hand mix your cream.
    • Measuring Spoons
    • Measuring Cup

🔪 How To Make Sweet Cream Cold Foam

Here are the step-by-step instructions for making sweet cream foam:

    Hand Mixed Method

    1. Add cold heavy cream to a medium-sized bowl.
    2. Using a whisk or electric hand mixer whip the mixture until the cream reaches a consistency of pourable thick foam - or your desired thickness.
    3. Mix in sweetener and optional vanilla until blended.

    Electric Frother Method

    1. Add cream to an electric milk frother and set to the cold setting. Push start and froth until the cream reaches a foamy consistency that is still pourable.
    2. Add sweetener, and optional vanilla to the frother and frother for a few seconds until blended.
    3. Serve cold foam over iced coffee, or other iced beverages.

    📖 Variations

Here are a few ways you can vary or make substitutions to this recipe:

    • Make this cold foam unsweetened if you'd rather.
    • Make it dairy-free with oat milk. Oat milk froths up like a dream in the electric milk frother.
    • To make a low carb and keto cold foam use a sugar substitute such as erythritol or monk fruit.
    • If you prefer it plain omit the vanilla.
    • Use a different extract to create different flavors - mint, almond, and so on...
    • Use store-bought sweetened syrups to flavor the cream.
    • Add 1 tablespoon of pumpkin puree to make a pumpkin cold foam.
    • Add 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup to make chocolate cold foam.

    💭 Top Tips

    • Make sure your cream is very cold before frothing.
    • Sweeten and flavor this cold foam to your own tastes so it will be perfect for you!
    • Mix the foam to your desired thickness. If you like it extra thick go for it. Be sure not to overmix though, or the cream will start to break down.
    • It really doesn't matter whether you use an electric milk frother, a whisk, or a mixer - the cream comes out the same.
    • This recipe makes 1 serving and for the best foam consistency use right away.
    • To save time, make your coffee in batches and have it ready to go over ice.

    ❓FAQs

Can you keep cold foam in the fridge?

Cold foam will turn runny if it sits. It is best to use it right away. If you want to make it in advance, mix the cream, vanilla, and sweetener together - but do not whip it ahead of time. Froth when you are ready to serve.

Unwhipped cold foam will keep for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

    What is cold foam?

Cold foam is a mixture of heavy cream, with or without sweetener, and flavoring that has been whipped to a pourable thickness. It is usually served over ice drinks and cold brew coffee.
