Hot honey cottage cheese dip is what happens when a creamy, high-protein snack meets a little sweet heat. It comes together in just minutes, tastes like something much more indulgent than it is, and works equally well as a healthy appetizer, cold dip, or afternoon snacking favorite.

The backstory.

I've always been a fan of dips that can pull double duty as a snack and a spread. I had cottage cheese in the fridge and some hot honey on hand, so I decided to blend them together. The result was creamy, sweet, a little spicy, and surprisingly satisfying. Now it's one of my favorite snacks or appetizer to serve.

It's a must-make.

Hot honey cottage cheese dip proves that healthy snacking doesn't have to be boring. It's creamy, a little sweet, a little spicy, and surprisingly versatile.

  • Ready in minutes. Everything comes together in about 5 minutes with simple ingredients.
  • High in protein. Cottage cheese makes this a satisfying snack that helps keep you full.
  • Sweet and spicy. Hot honey adds just the right balance of flavor without overpowering the dip.
  • Works in more than one way. Enjoy it as an appetizer, healthy spread recipe, or topping for bowls and grilled proteins.

The hardest part of this recipe is not standing at the counter and eating half of it before serving.

Let's talk texture and flavor.

This creamy cottage cheese dip is smooth, rich, and velvety thanks to blended cottage cheese and whipped cream cheese. The hot honey brings gentle sweetness with a little kick, while fresh lemon juice brightens everything up. Chives add a fresh pop of flavor, and if you opt for the red pepper flakes, you'll get an extra layer of heat that lingers just enough to keep things interesting.

What you'll need.

Ingredients needed for making hot honey whipped cottage cheese dip on a white wooded board.

Here's what your going to need to make high protein cottage cheese dip.

  • Full-fat cottage cheese: The star of the show. It creates an ultra-creamy texture while adding plenty of protein.
  • Hot honey: Sweet, spicy, and packed with flavor. Adjust the amount to fit your heat preference.
  • Whipped cream cheese: Helps create an extra silky, smooth finish.
  • Fresh lemon juice: Adds brightness and balances the sweetness.
  • Garlic powder: A little savory depth goes a long way.
  • Onion powder: Adds subtle savory flavor without overpowering the dip.
  • Kosher salt: Enhances all the flavors.
  • Black pepper: Adds a touch of warmth and seasoning.
  • Chives: Fresh, mild onion flavor and a pop of color.
  • Red pepper flakes: Optional, but perfect if you love extra heat.

Lately I've been finding protein in all kinds of unexpected places. From creamy Hot Honey Herb Whipped Tofu that disappears the minute it hits the table, to grab-and-go Cottage Cheese Pizza Egg Bites, and now these easy Peanut Butter Banana Cottage Cheese Overnight Oats, I'm all about recipes that make eating more protein feel effortless. They're simple, satisfying, and proof that healthy food can be every bit as crave-worthy as your favorite comfort foods.

Customize it your way.

This whipped cottage cheese dip is easy to make your own with a few simple additions or swaps.

  • Stir in crumbled feta for a tangy, salty twist.
  • Add crispy bacon for a sweet-and-savory combination.
  • Sprinkle in smoked paprika for subtle smoky flavor.
  • Top with extra chives and a generous drizzle of hot honey before serving.
  • Mix in finely diced jalapeños if you want even more heat.

Flexible dietary swaps.

One of my favorite things about this hot honey cottage cheese dip is how easy it is to adapt to different needs.

  • Lower Fat: Use low-fat cottage cheese and light cream cheese.
  • Lower Sodium: Choose lower-sodium cottage cheese and reduce or omit added kosher salt.
  • Dairy-Free: Use a dairy-free cottage cheese alternative and dairy-free cream cheese substitute.

How to make whipped cottage cheese dip.

Hot honey cottage cheese dip comes together with just a few simple steps.

  1. Add the cottage cheese, whipped cream cheese, hot honey, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to a food processor.
  2. Blend until completely smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides if needed.
  3. Stir in the chives and red pepper flakes, then taste and adjust the sweetness or heat.
  4. Transfer to a serving bowl and finish with extra hot honey, chives, and a pinch of red pepper flakes

How to serve it.

Whether you're putting together an appetizer spread or looking for a protein-packed afternoon snack, hot honey cottage cheese dip fits right in

  • Drizzle extra hot honey over the top before serving for a beautiful finish.
  • Serve with cucumber slices, carrots, celery, bell peppers, or snap peas.
  • Pair with pita chips, pretzel thins, crackers, or toasted baguette slices.
  • Use it as a healthy spread recipe for wraps and sandwiches.
  • Spoon it over grilled chicken, roasted sweet potatoes, or grain bowls for extra flavor and protein.
  • Add it to a summer snack board with fresh fruit, veggies, and crackers.

Kori's tips.

  • Blend a little longer. Extra blending makes it extra creamy! Give the cottage cheese a full minute or so in the food processor for the smoothest texture.
  • Use full-fat cottage cheese. More richness = better flavor and texture. It creates a creamier dip than lower-fat varieties.
  • Let it chill. A little fridge time gives it even better flavor! Thirty minutes allows the sweet, spicy, and savory flavors to come together.
  • Start with less hot honey. Heat levels vary from brand to brand. You can always add more, but you can't take it out.
  • Taste before serving. A quick taste test helps you decide if you want a little more hot honey, lemon juice, or red pepper flakes.

FAQ's

What's the best way to store it?

Store the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Give it a quick stir before serving.

Can I make it ahead of time?

Absolutely. In fact, I think it tastes even better after chilling for a few hours as the flavors have time to come together.

Can I use regular honey instead of hot honey?

Yes. Use regular honey and add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a little hot sauce if you'd like to recreate that sweet-and-spicy flavor combination.
