These crispy buffalo tofu "wings"are bold, spicy, and completely plant-powered. It’s a satisfying vegan and vegetarian snack or appetizer that’s baked—not fried—for a lighter take on classic wings. The tofu is seasoned, breaded, and baked to golden perfection, then tossed or drizzled in a tangy homemade buffalo sauce that delivers serious flavor with every bite.
1blockextra firm tofu(drained and pressed between paper towels to remove excess water)
6tablespoonscornstarch
⅓cupmilk of choice
¾cupstandard-style bread crumbs
1teaspooncelery salt
¾teaspoonkosher salt
½teaspoonpoultry seasoning
½teaspoonfreshly ground black pepper
To make your own buffalo sauce:
¼cuphot sauce
1tablespoonvegan butter
1½teaspoonslemon juice
optional: 1 teaspoon agave nectar, maple syrup, or honey
Instructions
Wrap tofu in paper towels and place a heavy object on top like a plate then a saucepan. Let drain for about 20-30 minutes before continuing.
Preheat air fryer to 400 ℉ or oven to 425 ºF. If using an oven, lightly grease a large rimmed baking sheet.
Using your hands, break the tofu into 1 to 1½" pieces.
In a shallow bowl mix together the breadcrumbs, poultry seasoning, celery salt, kosher salt, and black pepper.
Put the cornstarch in a second bowl and the plant milk in a third bowl.
Dip each tofu piece first into the starch, shaking off the excess. Dip into the milk and then roll in the breadcrumb mixture. Place the onto the prepared baking sheet and repeat with the remaining 'wings.'
Air fryer baking: Bake the prepared tofu in the air fryer for 12 to 15 minutes, turning halfway. Oven baking: Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and turn the tofu wings over. Bake another 10 + minutes until they are golden and crispy.

Kori's Tips
Check out my post above for more helpful hints, substitution ideas, cooking tips, and other delicious recipes.VARIATIONS: Try different buffalo sauces—mild, hot, or homemade—for the level of heat you love. Use gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed. Any plant-based milk works—soy, almond, oat, etc. If you're making your own sauce, agave or maple syrup keeps it vegan; use honey for a vegetarian option. Adjust the heat by choosing mild or spicy hot sauce to your taste.TIPS:
Press the tofu well to remove moisture—it’s the key to a crispy texture.
Use one hand for the starch and bread crumbs and the other for the milk to keep breading from clumping on your fingers.
To keep these crisp, don’t overdo the sauce—drizzle, toss lightly, or serve it on the side.
Using an air fryer is the fastest method.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve warm with vegan ranch or dairy-free blue cheese, (or this dairy blue cheese dressing) plus crunchy celery and carrot sticks. Or pile into lettuce cups, top a salad, or add to grain bowls for a flavorful protein boost. Garnish with green onion or chopped herbs for extra freshness.
