Quick and easy to make - with only 4 ingredients. Pork cooked in root beer comes out super moist and tender and has a mildly smokey sweet taste when combined with the dry rub and optional liquid smoke. This is a family favorite in our house! Yum!
Spray crockpot with cooking spray, or other oil. Place roast in the crock, fat side up. Poor 1 can of root beer over the roast. Sprinkle the pork with the dry rub. Optional: add a teaspoon of liquid smoke over the roast to give a smokier taste.
Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Pork is done when you are easily able to pull the pork off the roast. Remove the top layer of fat and any large chunks of fat. Shred the pork with your forks.
Add barbecue sauce and combine. Adjust the amount of barbecue sauce to taste.
Instant Pot Pulled Pork
Set the pork roast in the pressure cooker on a rack. Add root beer, sprinkle with the dry rub, add liquid smoke (optional). Secure lid and set the pressure to High, at 22 minutes per pound.
When the pressure cycle is complete allow steam to release naturally. Carefully remove the lid and then the pork roast. Removed extra fat and shred pork. Add barbecue sauce to taste and additional pork rub seasoning or salt and pepper to taste.
