Add all ingredients except masa to the pot.
Cover and bring to a simmer until chicken is done and shreds easily.
Remove the chicken, shred it, then return it to the pot.
Mix masa with waster then add to soup to thicken.
Add chicken back to pot then cheese. Stir to melt.
Serve and garnish with favorite toppings.
